| BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Vibrio vulnificus causes an infectious disease that has extremely poor convalescence and leads to necrotic fasciitis. In this study, we sought to define the characteristic epidemiology of V. vulnificus infection and clarify its diagnosis at the global level. METHODS: Over a period of 10 years, we investigated the appearance of symptoms, underlying conditions, treatment, and mortality in 12 patients (eight men, four women; >50 years old; average age, 66 years,) infected with V. vulnificus. | Objective: To describe the clinical signs and radiographic, cytological and histopathological findings in a dog presented with antebrachiocarpal joint synovial sarcoma. The literature search was performed in CAB and MEDLINE databases, for the retrospective period of-t8 years. Description: A 9 year-old mongrel intact male dog was presented t0 the Small Animal Surgery Service of the Veterinary Hospital of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil, for evaluation of a subcutaneous soft issue mass located cranial to the right antebrachiocarpal joint. | We analyzed the frequency of tail autotomy, toe amputation and integument scars in three sympatric lizard species, Ameivula ocellifera, Tropidurus hispidus and T. semitaeniatus, from a Neotropical area of semi-arid Caatinga, in northeastern Brazil. We evaluated intraspecific differences in the frequency of injuries between the sexes within each species. Only in A. ocellifera there were differences in frequency of toe amputation and integument scars between males and females, with more injured females than males. This highest frequency of body injuries in females of A. ocellifera might be attributed to the mating behavior of the species, in which males bite and scratch the females.
